Russia-based steelmaker MMK is relining its blast furnace No 9 at the OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steelworks integrated steel plant.
The upgrade project will furnish the furnace with copper plate coolers and high-conductivity graphite refractory materials just like the No 1 furnace upgrade in 2017, according to Danieli which is making these upgrades for MMK. The technology extends the life of the furnace units by over 30 years, minimizes the maintenance downtime, and extends annual capacity.
The No 9 blast furnace was initially installed in 1964. The 2,014cu mt unit underwent extensive upgrades in 2008 and 2015.
