Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) more than doubled rolled metal product shipments in H1 2021 with over 575,000mt shipped in specialized containers compared to 282,800mt shipped in the same year-ago period.
Container shipments were 745,500mt in 2020, about 220pc times higher than 2019. Having reached 77.2pc of the year-ago figures, MMK expects to surpass 1mn mt of finished steel product shipped in 2021.
Core buyers of the metal containers are enterprises in automotive, piping, equipment manufacturers, and steel warehouses. Containerized metal transport provides simplicity and convenience, including loading/unloading ease, which decreases shipping costs, along with remote multimodal delivery to consignees outside rail systems in a form that protects the metal products from stress and damage.
MMK is focusing on container transportation of steel goods as a central area of its customer-centric approach. Containers allow the company to deliver small batches to the warehouses of MMK Trading House, opportunity to develop niche market relationships requiring fewer volumes, and a safe transportation method for high value-added products
