Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), leading global marine transport group and Tata Steel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop environment friendly shipping solutions with the objective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the supply chain.
In the initial stage, the partnership will explore the environmental benefits, commercial and operational feasibilities of various technologies which includes wind challenger, a hard sail which reduces emissions by utilizing wind energy, said Peeyush Gupta, VC, Supply Chain, Tata Steel.
Tata Steel’s Chief Group Shipping and Director RM Procurement, Ranjan Sinha, said, Tata Steel as signatory of Responsible Steel is committed to aligning its shipping activities on responsible environmental behaviour.
MOL has been jointly working on various technologies with cross-industrial partners and the first vessel to be equipped with the wind challenger is slated to start operations in 2022.
