Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) plans to invest around $2.3bn in a new production facility in Huntsville, Alabama.
According to media reports, the company began hiring staff and construction of the facility in 2019. The plant is expected to produce around 300,000 units per year when commissioned and employ 4,000 workers.
Later this year, the plant will begin production of the Toyota Corolla Cross, to be sold in the US domestic market. Meanwhile, the Mazda model to be produced at this facility has not been disclosed yet. The company boosted the corpus by $830mn in August 2020, accelerating development and launching a hiring drive for 3,000 employees.
The completion date for the plant is unknown, but the Huntsville plant is expected to be capable of producing 15 different models once it is finished.
