Iran’s new Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant, Ardakan Steel Sponge Iron Production Plant, has commenced operations after Iranian president Hassan Rouhani and Chairman of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro) Khodadad Gharibpour inaugurated it via video conference.
The plant is likely to boost the country’s annual DRI production capacity to 36.3mn mt and entailed and investment of $96.8mn. The project has created 500 jobs to date, according to Imidro.
