A new ferrous scrap consumer has entered the Turkish market.
Merchant bar producer Mescier plans to start its own steelmaking in 2020. The EAF with 1mn tpy capacity is scheduled for hot trials in January, Davis Index learned.
The company operates four rolling lines with a total capacity of 650,000 tpy in the Karabuk region, with the new EAF Mescier plans to cover its own production needs in semis and become steel semis supplier. The company is going to produce 150-160mm billet and later to include 180-200mm billet.
Mescier will require 1.1-1.2million tpy of ferrous scrap, some of which will be imported, a company representative told Davis Index.
