Nexa Resources has temporarily halted operations at its zinc mine at Extermo Norte underground mine in Vazante Unit. Unusual ground displacement was detected, as reported by the company on March 19. Mine is suspended as a preventive measure for the safety of workers.

The production in first quarter would not be materially affected, said the company as it has managed to mitigate the decline in production in Extermo Norte by increasing output at Vazante mine.

A detailed study was conducted by experts regarding the ground displacement which suggested that Extermo Norte mine is expected to resume work in the next two to three months.

Vazante’s zinc production guidance has also been revised to 130,000-140,000mt from 140,000-150,000mt. Zinc average grade is expected to dip by 9.88pc from the prior forecast of 10.58pc for the year.
