Nine steel plants in Anyang city, located in Central China’s Henan province shut production amid red alert for heavy pollution weather conditions. Anyang city is a major steel production hub, in Henan province which produces more than 30mn mt of crude steel annually.
The city authorities have ordered steel, coal, cement and other key industries operating in the region to stop production due to serious pollution prone weather from Dec 7 to 12. Stricter supervision of implementation of red warning are in place which aim to curb industrial pollution, dust pollution have instruction for ‘zero use of coal’ during the period.
The emergency plan for heavy pollution conditions in Anyang city following consultation with National Environmental Monitoring Station calls for effective reduction of pollution emissions. From Dec 7, the orange alert (Level II) for heavy pollution weather was upgraded to red alert (Level I). The weather warning mandates emission reduction measures including shutdown of sintering machine and blast furnace braising.
* Anyang Iron and Steel Group: Reduction of production through electric furnaces. The company’s sintering machine, pelletizing equipment, and lime kiln have cut production by more than 50pc. The company has an annual Crude steel production capacity of more than 10mn mt.
* Anyang Xinpu Iron and Steel: stopped operations of sintering machine, pelletizing equipment; and blast furnace braising
* Shagang Group Yongxing Iron and Steel: stopped operations of sintering machine, pelletizing equipment; and blast furnace braising
* Angang Group Yongtong Ductile Iron Pipe: stopped operations of sintering machine, pelletizing equipment; and blast furnace braising
* Henan Yaxin Iron and Steel; stopped operations of sintering machine, pelletizing equipment; and blast furnace braising
* Linzhou Hexin Casting; stopped operations of sintering machine, pelletizing equipment; and blast furnace braising
* Anyang Yuhe Yongtong Pelletizing Company: stopped production and transportation.
* Henan Fengbao Special Steel: strictly implementation the heat-based production requirements.
* Anyang Huixin Special Steel: strictly implementation the heat-based production requirements.
In order to control dust pollution, authorities have stopped work at all construction sites in the city. Expect emergency rescue projects, movement of all types trucks including muck trucks, commercial concrete trucks, and material trucks as well as non-road mobile machinery are prohibited through the day. The red alert will be rollback through a separate notification, said an official release.
