Automaker Nissan Motor Corp was forced to cut the production of its bestselling model, Note, at its Oppama plant in Japan due to a shortage of semiconductor chips.

According to media reports, the company will cut Note’s output by 10,000 units this month, from an initial production target of 15,000 units of the model. Nissan’s domestic peer Honda also noted an impact on production due to the same reason, but the exact volumes are not known.

In December, Volkswagen and Bosch warned of a chip shortage that could impact production across Asia. Indian automaker Mahindra also noted a similar impact on its volumes at the end of 2020.
