NLMK has completed the installation of a new wire galvanizing line in Berezovsky, Sverdlovsk province in Russia at a cost of RUB540mn ($7.3mn).
According to a media statement on Feb 10, the new plant will enable NLMK-Metalware (Metiz) to increase production by 40pc and provide zinc-aluminum coated wire as a new product to the market. The Russian steelmaker’s Metiz division has the capability to produce 225,400mt of steel wire in a year at present.
The company indicated that zinc-aluminum coating had better corrosion resistance and can withstand a wider range of temperatures compared to pure zinc-coated wires.
Apart from steel wire, NLMK Metiz also produces steel nails and screws, at a production capacity of 28,600mt and 5,700mt per year, respectively.
