Russian steelmaker NLMK plans to set up a new RUB200bn metals and mining facility within its existing Stoilensky Mining and Beneficiation plant in Russia. The new project will increase the Stoilensky unit’s annual iron ore output by 56pc from 43mn mt to 67mn mt.

 

Iron ore capacity expansion will take place with the construction of a new open-pit mine, according to media reports on Thursday. The facility will also have a 9mn mt pelletizing plant, a hot-briquetted iron (HBI) shop with a 2.5mn mt capacity, and a new beneficiation plant with a capacity to produce 10mn mt of concentrate per year.

 

The phased implementation will take place from 2024 to 2027, with commissioning slated between 2027 and 2028. 

 

NLMK’s new project will create 1,300 new jobs, the media indicated on June 3Okay, the company has signed a memorandum of intent (MOI) with Russia’s industry and trade ministry and the regional administration of Belgorod, to launch the new plant.
