Indian iron ore company, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), reported a surge in iron ore production by 16.62pc in January, 2021, to 3.86mn mt compared to same period prior year. Sales increased by 26.35pc to 3.74mn mt in the same period.
In the Apr 2020- Jan 2021 period, the state-owned company’s iron ore production marginally dipped by 0.9pc to 25.66mn mt while sales went up by 0.04pc to 26.01mn mt in the same period.
Out of the total production in 10-month period, Chhattisgarh accounted for the largest share of production at 76pc or 19.42mn mt, and while Karnataka produced the rest of 24pc or 6.24mn mt.
Sales from the Chhattisgarh mines contributed 20.09mn mt in Apr 2020-Jan 2021 period, an uptick from 19.7mn mt in the same period last year. The contribution of Karnataka mines was at 5.92mn mt in this period, compared to 6.3mn mt in the prior year period.
