Noranda Alumina, a subsidiary of New Day Aluminum Holdings said that despite challenges like COVID-19, drop in demand, and the hurricane season, its Gramercy refinery produced approximately 590,000mt of alumina in July- Dec 2020 period.
The company announced this in its half-yearly production update that it could achieve an annual production rate of 1.18mn mt of alumina output. It claims that this is the strongest six-months production figures in three years.
Noranda Alumina acquired the Louisiana facility in October of 2016 with an investment of over $130mn. The Gramercy refinery produces smelter grade alumina raw material to produce aluminium and chemical grade alumina for non-metallurgical applications. Noranda Bauxite, located in St. Ann, Jamaica, mines and ships bauxite globally for metallurgical and non-metallurgical applications.
