Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel) has signed a contract with the British firm Johnson Matthey (JM) for a long-term supply of critical battery products required for production of electric vehicles (EV) at its Finland plant.

The Russian miner plans to make the supply of precursor and cathode active material from its Finnish refinery, NN Harjavalta, it said in a statement. JM’s factory is the second commercial factory with a production capacity of 30kt of ultra-high density cathode material required for EV production.

Both companies have also signed an MOU to expand metal products in a bid to improve the value chain of battery material.
