Nornickel plans to decide on the full restoration of operations at the Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky mines on Mar 12 after the mines’ operations were suspended due to groundwater flooding last month.
The company has developed programs for the immediate repair of both mines. The ore processing line has already been shut and the copper line will shut in a few days for upgradation in order to eliminate any risk of possible accidents.
The repair work is expected to be completed by Mar 15 after which an inspection by the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Supervision will take place. The company will then decide on commencing operations at the two plants, it said in a statement.
