North American aluminum production in July as well as the first seven months of the year grew marginally compared to the same periods last year, according to data from the Aluminum Association.
Aluminum production in North America last month increased by 3.2pc to 347,146mt from 336,319mt in July 2019. Through the first seven months of 2020, the US and Canada produced 2.42mn mt of primary aluminum—a 4.3pc increase over the 2.32mn mt produced between January and July of last year.
With the current pace and capacity utilization, the Aluminum Association predicts North America’s aluminum production this year will reach 4.16mn mt, increasing by 4.6pc annually from 3.97mn mt in 2019.
The data provided by the association is collected from all major aluminum producers in North America, including Alcoa, Rio Tinto, and Century Aluminum.
