Novelis completed the expansion of its aluminum sheet factory in Sao Paulo, Brazil, increasing its production capacity to 680,000mt/y, with a recycling capacity of 490,000mt/y, the company reported.

 

Following the inauguration of the expansion, Novelis explained that the Pindamonhangaba plant received an investment of BRL750mn ($ 135mn), with support from the Sao Paulo Investment Promotion and Competitiveness Agency.

 

With this investment, the company improved the processes and facilities for recycling, remelting, plate preparation, hot and cold rolling, finishing, and logistics, especially for the beverage and specialty cans sectors.

 

The expansion works began in 2018, and in 2020, Novelis inaugurated the railway station that was part of the first stage of the project. This station is responsible for transporting 25pc of incoming and outgoing cargo.
