North America’s Novelis has completed a $150mn rolling and recycling capacity expansion project at its Pindamonhangaba plant in Brazil to increase output by 100,000mt per year in both divisions.
The company’s total output is estimated to be approximately 680,000mt and 490,000mt, respectively after this. The ramp-up also supports the aluminum recycler’s goals to reduce its carbon footprint by 30pc by 2026 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Novelis now plans to buy an additional 380,000 square meters of land through this investment to construct an additional water source for the plant and a new railway terminal.
The expansion project was finished on schedule budget and has added a workforce of 90 at Pindamonhangaba. This is the company’s second major investment in the plant within a decade.
