Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Indian aluminium rolling company Novelis launched the one-of-its kind coffee capsule made of 80pc recycled aluminium while announcing its partnership with premium portioned coffee manufacturer Nestlé Nespresso S.A.

Novelis has increased recycled product content to 60pc from earlier 33pc. The company, a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group owned Hindalco, has also developed many new alloys from recycled aluminium.

The coffee capsules are made of thinner aluminium foil that contains 9.2pc less aluminium and are 8pc lighter. The foil protects freshness and is infinitely recyclable. It requires less energy to produce than primary aluminium.

Novelis manufactures aluminium and copper products, and caters to aerospace, automotive, beverage sectors throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and South America.

Novelis recently announced its results for Q1 FY2021. The company posted $79mn loss compared to a net profit of $127mn during the same quarter last fiscal year. The company has announced scaling up production to commensurate to market demand to avoid over-production.
