Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Atlanta-headquartered rolled aluminum maker Novelis has unveiled its new high-strength product, Advanz 7UHS-s701, which is touted to be 40pc lighter than high-strength steel available in the market.

Advanz is designed for structural integrity in cars in applications such as A and B pillar reinforcements as well as side-impact door beams. Since the material is lighter than steel, it can also increase the battery range in electric vehicles, Novelis said in a statement.

Novelis believes that the product is a clear alternative to high-strength steel and is working with automotive engineers and hot stamping companies in the industry to integrate the new product into the supply chain, though it did not disclose the volume it plans to produce initially.
