Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Novelis, an aluminum rolling and recycling company, announced today that it will create a closed-loop recycling system in Europe.

The company is partnering with Nissan to aid in achieving a more sustainable manufacturing process. Novelis will deliver aluminum from its German plant to the Nissan car plant in Sunderland, UK. Nissan will then return the scrap gathered from manufacturing to Novelis European recycling centers to be casted and rolled again for production by Nissan.

Both companies will be able to achieve their sustainability goals through the circular supply chain that this process creates.

Production volumes and schedules were not disclosed by either company.

Nissan also had discussions with the UK government on Thursday about the possibility of setting up an EV battery production unit at the Sunderland plant.
