Arkansas-based Nucor-Yamato Steel (NYS) has commissioned its beam mill No.2 after revamping the mill to increase its production capacity.
SMS, the company which worked on these upgrades for NYS indicated in a media statement on May 10 that the revamp would not only expand NYS’s product range and increase its output capacity but would also strengthen the steelmaker’s position in the structural steels market.
NYS’s mill No. 2 along with its medium-section mill will now hold a total annual capacity to produce 2.4mn mt of finished products.
Mill No. 2’s upgrades included replacing the existing UR-E and UF stand arrangements for higher rolling forces and roll products with larger diameters. This upgrade would reduce roll costs and enable NYS to produce much heavier products, the German service provider noted in its statement.
