Russia-based United Metallurgical Company (AO OMK) has placed an order for a new bars and lights section rolling mill to be installed at its Chusovoy facility in Russia.
OMK is upgrading the plant to increase the production of long products targeting the high-quality spring steel flats market. These springs are used in light commercial vehicles (LCVs). The mill is designed by equipment supplier Danieli and would produce 200,000mt/yr low-medium-carbon steel along with spring and stainless steel products.
The primary focus of this investment would be to manufacture crossbows for trucks, including rounds, rebar and light profiles to cater to the demand in Russia’s Perm region. The plant is scheduled to start production in 2021.
