Outokumpu plans to digitize its largest plan in Tornio in order to enhance production, quality of material and supply chain management.
The company is executing a machine learning technology that enables the employee to take action instead of the machine taking automatic actions. This machine learning technology has increased production capacity by 10-15pc and reduced defects by 40pc, said Niklas Wass, head of production in Europe.
By digitizing the plant, the stainless steel producer will also achieve its goal of reducing CO2 emissions and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
