Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Pak Steel has booked a bar rolling mill from Primetals Technologies in the Hattar Special Economic Zone (HSEZ), in Khyber Pakhthunkwa province, according to reports.

The production capacity of the new mill will be 450,000mt annually and will produce concrete reinforcement bars (rebars) of various sizes ranging from 8 to 40mm diameters. The commissioning of the mill is scheduled in the fourth quarter of 2022. The billets will be directly charged in hot conditions to the rolling mill, which will save significant energy and led to high metallic yield.

The company is one of the prominent rebar players in the Pakistani steel industry with a current production capacity of 200,000mt per annum. The additional expansion of 4,50,000mt will boost the yearly production capacity to 650,000mt and will enable the steelmaker to meet a growing demand for steel in the country.
