Pakistan’s car production till now in the current fiscal year, i.e from July to January, has jumped 4.87pc to 75,867 units compared to the prior year, stated Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association. 

 

The auto body stated that Honda’s car production rose by 66.10pc to 13,674 units in the seven months ending January. Production of Toyota’s Corolla took a hit as it fell 34pc to 9,950 units. 

 

Suzuki Swift’s production rose by 21pc to 1,215 units, Suzuki Cultus jumped 5pc to 8,594 units and Wagon-R production slipped 18pc to 5.582 units in July-January period. Production of Cultus was boosted amid a higher demand for the model followed by its improved appearance, stated local media reports. 

 

Wagon-R, which is Pakistan’s preferred model for ride hailing companies, dipped amid the pandemic, especially in December and January. Production of Suzuki Bolan improved by 18pc to 4,712 units but production of Alto decreased to 16,381 units down 43pc from the prior-year period. 

 

In January, total passenger car output in Pakistan grew 20pc to 13,826 units from the prior year and up 20.1pc from the preceding month. Passenger car sales in January rose 44pc to 14,543 units and up 29pc from December levels.
