Pakistan imported 21pc more iron and steel scrap in April 2021 at 324,732mt compared to 268,963mt during the same month last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

 

The country’s ferrous imports however dipped by 2pc this April from 330,790mt in March 2021.

 

Full-year 2021 imports of the first four months stand at 1.47mn mt signifying a 17pc rise from 1.25mn mt between January and April 2020. Monthly trends show a consistent increase of 14pc, 12pc, and 26pc in January, February, and March 2021, compared to the same corresponding months in the previous year.

 

Pakistan’s imports of iron and steel products jumped by 44pc this April to 218,425mt from 151,530mt last year but dropped by 36pc from 343,259mt in March 2021.

 

The country’s total imports of iron and steel from January to April tallied at 1.07mn mt, 33pc more than 803,56mt during the same period last year.
