Peruvian mining production fell by 3.7pc in December on an annual basis according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (Inei).

 

Inei noted that iron ore production fell by 16.4pc in December 2020 compared to the same month in 2019. Meanwhile, lead production decreased by 10pc in December 2020 and copper output declined by 1.3pc compared to the same period in 2019.

 

Zinc production, on the other hand, rose by 17.6pc in December 2020 on an annual basis, Inei said. Overall, activity in the base metal mining sector was down by 2.4pc in December from a year ago. 

 

The mining industry contributes about 9pc of Peru’s GDP and 60pc of its exports, copper and gold being the most valuable.
