Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Peruvian mining production decreased by 11.1pc in August on an annual basis, due to lower demand for lead and copper according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (Inei).

In August, lead and copper output fell by 17.2pc and 10.1pc, respectively, compared to the same prior-year period, Inei indicated in a statement on Oct 15, without disclosing volumes.

Copper production decline due to lower production from Las Bambas, Hudbay Perú, Antamina, Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Chinalco Perú, Minera Shouxin Perú, Cerro Verde, Sociedad Minera El Brocal, Minera Condestable, and Gold Fields La Cima, Inei noted.

On the other hand, lead production decreased due to lower production from Buenaventura, Santa Luisa, Catalina Huanca, Sociedad Minera Corona, Minera Kolpa, Trevali Perú, Nexa Resources Atacocha, and Nexa Resources Perú. The halted operations at Minera Raura, Pan American Silver Huarón, Minera Argentum, and Alpayana also affected lead output in August.

Iron ore and zinc output, however, increased by 12.2pc and 9.5pc, respectively, in August compared to the same month last year.

Inei also pointed out that construction output decreased by 6.5pc in August on an annual basis due to a 38.1pc decline in the construction of public works. The output from Peru’s manufacturing industry also declined by 12.09pc in August from the same month last year.
