Peru exported 669,584mt copper ore and concentrates in June, down by 16pc from the prior-year period as operations were affected by COVID-19.

Peruvian copper ore exports dropped by 128,894mt from 798,478mt from June 2019. China remained the top importer of copper ore from Peru. Peru exported 405,711mt of copper ores to China in June, down by 31pc from the prior-year period. 

Japan also remained the second-largest buyer of Peruvian copper ore, with 84,981mt imported in June, from 61,716mt in the prior-year period as the country slowly resumed operations post COVID-19 related shutdowns.

 Peru’s copper ore mining output has dropped since March due to operational disruptions causing global supply concerns, and inducing a rise in the LME copper contract.
