Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

The mining sector in Peru grew by 76.42pc in April compared to the same month of 2020 according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

The growth of the sector in 2021 was due to an increase in zinc production, INEI indicated. Zinc output rose by 681pc while copper production grew by 40.1pc in April compared to the same month last year.

In its technical report released on Wednesday, the INEI noted that lead output grew by 391.9pc, silver by 232.5pc, gold by 48.6pc, and molybdenum by 18pc on an annual basis during the month under review.

However, the INEI recalled that in April 2020 most of the non-essential economic activities, including mining, were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
