Peruvian mining production may grow 8.5pc in 2022, compared to 2021, and is likely to exceed pre-pandemic levels following overall sector recovery, noted the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).


Copper production from Mina Justa and Toromocho will be the key drivers of this growth in H1 2021, as will the Antamina zinc and Shougang iron projects.


The Quellaveco, Pampacancha, and Chalcobamba mines are also slated for a revival in Q4 2022, leading to a 3.2pc increase approximately in the country’s mining output compared to 2019, the MEF on Aug 31.


Regarding this year, the MEF considers that the sector will achieve a growth of 10.4pc compared to 2020, but it will still be 4.9pc below pre-COVID-19 levels.
