Western Australia’s Port Hedland exported 45.1mn mt of iron ore in April 2021, trending flat from the same month last year, the Pilbara Ports Authority reported. 

 

Total exports from Pilbara through Port Hedland and Port Dampier totalled 60.6mn mt last month. Of this, Port Dampier’s shipments fell by 9pc to 13.8mn mt in April on an annual basis. Port Hedland imported 186,000mt of material last month, down 29pc annually while Port Dampier’s imports fell by 73pc to 39,000mt in the same period. 

 

Most Western Australian miners such as Rio Tinto, BHP, Fortescue, and Atlas Iron use Port Hedland as its main terminal to export iron ore.
