Exports from the port of Port Hedland in Australia grew by 2pc to 45mn mt in July compared to the same month last year, according to Pilbara Ports Authority data. Around 44.3mn mt of the total were iron ore exports.


The Pilbara Ports Authority saw a total of 59mn mt of exports pass through its two ports—Port Hedland and Port of Dampier—in July, down 2pc from July 2020 due to a 7pc drop in the total throughput from the latter.


China continued to remain the largest importer of iron ore from Australia last month, with around 38.6mn mt of the material shipped to the Asian nation from Port Hedland. South Korea imported 2.81mn mt of Australian iron ore, while 1.74mn mt was shipped to Japan during the month.
