Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Global primary aluminum production stood at 5.20mn mt in February, up by 1.4pc from 5.13mn mt in February 2020, according to the International Aluminum Institute. 

 

Last month, production in China rose by 4pc to 3mn mt compared with 2.9mn mt in the same month last year. During the same period, output in the rest of Asia also increased by 0.8c to 339,000mt from 336,000mt. 

 

In North America, primary aluminum production fell by 1.9pc to 308,000mt in February, compared with 314,000mt in the prior-year period. South America’s output also declined by 4.6pc to 86,000mt from 90,000mt a year ago.

 

Output in East and Central Europe output inched down 3.7pc to 319,000mt from 331,000mt in February 2020. In West Europe, production fell 1.5pc to 259,000mt against 263,000mt a year ago. In the Gulf, output fell by 4.4pc on an annual basis to 454,000mt from 473,000mt.

 

Production decreased by 5pc in Africa to 121,000mt from 127,000mt in February 2020 while Oceania produced 146,000mt of primary aluminum, down by 3.6pc from a year ago. Estimated unreported production in the rest of the world remained unchanged at 154,000mt.
