Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

US secondary aluminum producer Real Alloy has closed its acquisition of French recycler Récupération Valorisation Aluminium (RVA), which specializes in salt slag recycling.

RVA which is based in Les Islettes, France recovers aluminum and aluminum oxide from salt slag, which was previously considered the only waste by-product in the smelting process. While recycling slag completely eradicates waste from the aluminum production cycle, it is considered to be a costly, and not-so-profitable business by many in the industry.

According to media reports, Russell Barr, Real’s executive vice president and managing director for Europe, noted that the acquisition will increase its recycling capabilities in Europe. The company also has sites in the UK, Germany, and Norway.
