Turkish companies exported 3.46mn mt of rebar in January-August 2020 compared with 3.66mn mt in the same period of 2019 amid negative market conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Yemen remained the main outlet for Turkish producers, according to Turkish statistical source SteelData. Rebar shipments to the country totaled 684,000mt over the period under review, up 14.8pc compared with the prior year. Exports to Israel decreased by 4pc to 524,000 mt. Turkey exported 323,000mt of rebar to the US in the first eight months of 2020 versus 38,000mt in January-August 2019.

 

The next important buyer was Singapore, however, shipments to the country fell by 39.5pc to 234,000mt, according to SteelData. Turkish rebar export to Hong Kong rose by 88.8pc to 207,000mt in the first eight months of 2020.
