UK’s aluminium packaging recycling rate was 56pc in 2019, up from 52pc in 2018, according to media reports citing the National Packaging Waste Database. In 2019, aluminium packaging sold in the UK was 207,000mt, an increase of 8pc from 2018. Of this, 116,670mt was recycled in the year. Around 76pc of the recycled packaging consisted of beverage cans.
Over 102,994mt of aluminium packaging was recycled into high-quality products in Europe, states the report. The UK targets to achieve 100pc aluminium packaging recycling rate in the next few years. Since 2010, the rate has risen by 15pc.
