State-owned Rastriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) will soon start production of forged wheels at its new plant at Lalganj, Rae Bareily, Uttar Pradesh. The company produced its first forged wheel on Feb 8 after a successful hot trial of forging line at the facility. 

 

The Plant has been set at an estimated cost of Rs1,680 crores with an annual production capacity of 100,000 high-speed wheels. RINL will provide these wheels to Indian Railways and substitute imports. 

 

Vizag steel plant (VSP) will provide raw materials for the plant, transported by train. RINL was allocated 50 acres to set up the plant. The Indian Railways will initially purchase 55,000 wheels, according to an agreement. The number is likely to go up with time.
