Rio Tinto has signed a memorandum of understanding with Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewery, that will see the two work with supply chain partners to provide the latter with low-carbon aluminium beer cans.
This project will first focus on the North American market, with 70pc of aluminium used in AB InBev cans recycled, and by pairing recycled and low -carbon aluminium the firms expect to reduce carbon emission by 30pc a can.
One million cans will initially be produced to package AB In-Bev’s Michelob ULTRA brand.
