The Recycling Industry Operating Standards (RIOS) has partnered with Sustainable Electronic Recycling International (SERI) to improve and streamline certification and education programs for the electronics recycling industry.
RIOS, which is a part of the Global Recycling Standards Organization (GRSO), indicated in a press release on Wednesday that under this partnership, companies seeking both R2 and RIOS certification would be able to gain both at a lower cost and in a more streamlined manner. The R2 certification is developed by SERI.
RIOS noted in its statement that the “Association Membership” for companies that already have or are trying for R2 certification will be at half the cost of the normal membership and will include an implementation guide as well as access to all RIOS training programs.
Moreover, GRSO and SERI will jointly create a management system training that will be customized for companies pursuing the R2 certification, and regardless of their R2 affiliation, companies can also avail of the RIOS standard which will be available free to anyone.
The alliance also aims to improve education and training programs for the recycling industry and support responsible recycling efforts for e-scrap.
RIOS is a certification standard for recyclers of all commodities and was designed by the industry to improve environmental and health and safety performance in the scrap business. The certification standard has certified nearly 150 facilities across all commodities.
