Romania’s total car production Jan-Dec, 2020, stood at 438,107 units, down by 10.67pc as compared to 490,412 units in 2019, according to the Association of Romanian Automakers (ACAROM).


The decline in the cumulative auto output in Romania for the year was due to the severe impact of the COVID-19  pandemic on the automobile sector across the globe, especially between April till June.


Dacia, owned by French automaker Renault and Ford Motor Co’s Craiova plant had both halted production between March-May to curb the spread of the virus.

In December 2020, the country car output fell by 30.70pc to 33,408 units from 48,208 units in November, of which, 18,804 units were produced at the Dacia plant in Mioveni, while 14,604 units were manufactured at the Ford plant in Craiova.


The spread of the new strain of the COVID-19 in Europe has led to lockdowns across the continent and disrupted the supply of auto parts and components. Several auto companies across the world are currently facing a shortage of components.
