Romania’s car production in January 2021 stood at 38,431 units, down by 10.71pc from the same month in 2020, according to data released by the Association of Romanian Automakers (ACAROM).

Of the total car output in January, 19,809 units were produced at the Dacia plant in Mioveni, while 18,622 units were manufactured at the Ford plant in Craiova.

Romania’s car production is expected to decline further in February, as per local media reports.

Even though the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic did not halt operations at the auto plants in Romania, the semiconductor chip shortage across the globe forced Dacia Automobile officials to suspend production for five days in February, and other temporary plant shutdowns may occur again.

February also has fewer working days, which could lead to lower car production during the month.
