Romania’s new car sales in April 2021 stood at 6,862 units, up by 58.81pc as compared to April 2020, according to the data released by the Romanian Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACAROM).

In the first four months of the year (Jan-April, 2021), the country’s car sales, however, fell by 14.48pc to 27,624 units from 32,300 units sold in the prior-year period.

The leading car brand in the Jan-April period was Dacia with 5,447 units, followed by Skoda with 2,461 units, Toyota with 2,372 units, Ford with 2,355 units, Hyundai with 2,224 units, Volkswagen with 2,096 units, Renault with 1,506 units, BMW with 1,214 units, Mercedes with 1,134 units, and by Suzuki with 905 units.

In April, Ford announced that it will invest $300mn to build a new light commercial vehicle model in 2023 at its plant in Craiova. The model will also have an electric version that will debut in 2024.
