Rourkela Steel has recorded its highest-ever steel production through all its units, including blast furnaces and hot strip mills.

 

The steelmaker’s BF 1 produced 70,075 mt of hot metal in July, while the output for BF 5 was 239,578mt. The mill’s  60-year-old Hot strip mill-1 rolled out 151,848mt of HR coils breaking the previous July production record. The plates output from its New Plate Mill stood at 73,639mt.

 

The company’s plate mills; pipe plants and all other major units achieved over 100pc of their targets. Hot Strip Mill-1 dispatched 123,378mt of HR coils and plates, its highest ever numbers.

 

Demand for flat products has increased lately, after months of subdued activities due to the pandemic. CEO of the company Deepak Chattaraj believes Rourkela city and their plant will soon be free of COVID-19 cases as they continue to follow all the safety measures. The plant is also focusing on fulfilling the local demand by boosting production.
