Rourkela Steel plant (RSP) plans to increase its steel production capacity, according to media reports.
Crude steel production capacity will be increased to 4.85mn mt from the present 4.5mn mt, while saleable steel capacity will be raised to 4.32mn mt from the present 3.8mn mt.
The steelmaker aims to increase capacity by utilizing natural gas in different units to minimize the use of fossil fuels and make the steelmaking process eco-friendly.
The scheduled projects are designed with the concept of zero discharge and through natural technologies. A proposed normalizing furnace with a capacity of 0.3mn mt will be installed inside the new plate mill to capture niche market segments.
