Steel Authority of India’s (Sail) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) set a new national record in single-day blowing in steel melting shop converter (SMS-2) by clocking 48 blows in a day on June 2, according to media reports.

The plant’s blast furnaces were able to produce high-quality and quantity hot metal, while other departments enabled far-fetched yields in a unified manner.

The same day, the plant achieved another milestone as its hot metal torpedo ladle number-5 exceeded the prior year’s record of 2,331 lining life. The ladle is still operating efficiently.

The CEO of RSP, Dipak Chattaraj said the plant was able to achieve this in spite of several recent challenges due to the pandemic.
