Russia’s exports of unwrought aluminium dropped by 43pc to 1.09mn mt in April from 1.92mn mt a year ago due to COVID-19 related shutdowns in the country. The country remains one of the most affected by the pandemic in the world.
Exports to Germany significantly dropped by 79pc to 44,005mt from 210,065mt in April 2019. Japan’s imports of the metal from Russia also dropped by 31pc to 123,454mt from 178,990mt a year ago. Demand for aluminium from both the countries fell after the automotive industry was hit by the pandemic.
Exports to the US, which remained the top importer of aluminium from Russia, rose by 1.7pc to 250,823mt and exports to Netherlands rose by 18pc to 178,853mt from a year ago.
