Ruuki, the Finland-based subsidiary of Swedish steelmaker SSAB will use the latter’s HYBRIT steel to supply fossil-free steel building products to its customers.
The products are expected to launch by 2026 and the company expects to reduce its carbon footprint by at least 25pc, it said in a statement. The steel for these products will be sourced from HYBRIT which is expected to produce 2.7mn mt of fossil-free steel by 2030.
Before the launch in 2026 the company plans to pilot the use of fossil-free building products with some of its customers, it stated.
Recently SSAB also announced a partnership with Volvo to test fossil-free steel in automobiles under its HYBRIT technology.
