Indian state-owned producer Steel Authority of India (Sail) has started commercial production of 12mm rebar/TMT bars effective May 28 under the brand name SEQR TMT. The steelmaker is producing the rebar variety through its newly installed bar and rod Mill in Bhilai as per the company’s update.
In FY 2019-20 ending March 2020, Sail had launched its new brand of TMT bars with the name of Sail SeQR (Sail secure) as high strength and better ductility product.
The company also said that trial production for the rebar had been successful which will enable it to increase the market share in the domestic construction and infrastructure sectors.
The company is focussing on individual real estate segment through its retail market channel, which will boost the sales of its long products.

The company’s crude steel production and sales were at 16.15mn mt and 14.5mn mt, respectively in FY2020. The company’s exports surged by 54pc to 1.18mn mt in the year from FY 2018-19.
Primary steel mills in India were operating at around 50pc since the lockdown on March 25 which is now extended till June 30. Most mills plan work at 75-80pc capacity in June and align capacity to end-consumer demand.
